Statistics have shown that January and February are the best time of year to find a job. There is even a special day dedicated for this period of the year, the “National Job Hunting Day” on the 7th January!

Why is January/February the Best Time to Look for Jobs?

Most companies tend to hire in January and February because of new hiring budgets that go into effect at the beginning of the year. Also, hiring managers and recruiters return from their holiday vacations.

Where do I start?

Ask yourself these important questions:

  • What do I want as my next career?
  • Have I read the Job Description?
  • Does my skill set match the Job Description?
  • What Salary/Hourly pay am I looking for?
  • Am I looking for remote/flexible/on-site working options?
  • What benefits and perks do the companies offer?
  • What are the Company Mission, Vision, Values and Culture?
  • Is there a good Work / Life Balance?
  • 79% of job seekers say they are likely to use social media in their job search and this increases to 86% for younger job seekers.

Now you have researched what job you are planning to apply for, go and dust off your ‘MyCV_2022(5).doc’ file.

  1. Are you including keywords from the Job Description?
  2. Have you included your most relevant skills, qualifications and information?
  3. Is it professional, clear and understandable?
  4. Are the dates, job titles and experience correct?
  5. Have you included numbers that prove your professional experience?

Making sure your LinkedIn profile is updated regularly with your education, work experiences and information will ensure your success in being headhunted for opportunities. Also, keeping yourself active on Social Media platforms (messaging hiring managers, posting relevant content, etc.) can help you gain visibility and open doors to potential employers.
