At Buckingham Futures is delighted to be recruiting an experienced Interim Environmental Protection on behalf of a local authority in Hertforshire.

Looking for an experienced Interim Team Leader – Environmental Protection to join their Environmental Health team on a full-time interim, hybrid basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an operationally focused Environmental Health professional with previous management or supervisory experience.

The successful candidate will lead a busy team dealing primarily with reactive Environmental Protection complaints while supporting the management of an existing backlog of cases. The role requires someone who can quickly integrate into the team, provide operational leadership, and confidently manage challenging situations, including responding to customer complaints and service pressures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day operational leadership to the Environmental Protection team.
  • Manage and support officers dealing with reactive Environmental Protection complaints.
  • Oversee and help reduce an existing backlog of cases.
  • Ensure complaints are investigated effectively and in accordance with relevant legislation.
  • Support the delivery of a high-quality Environmental Protection service.
  • Handle escalated and complex customer enquiries and complaints professionally.
  • Monitor team performance and provide guidance where required.
  • Work collaboratively with internal departments and external stakeholders to deliver positive outcomes.

Essential Requirements

  • A degree in Environmental Health
  • Registration with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health as a qualified Environmental Health Practitioner.
  • Significant experience working in Environmental Protection, particularly in local government.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience for a Team Leader role working within Environmental Protection.
  • Experience leading or supervising an Environmental Health or Environmental Protection team.
  • Strong knowledge of Environmental Protection legislation and enforcement.
  • Ability to manage a demanding operational workload and prioritise effectively.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience dealing with customer complaints and challenging situations.
  • Ability to hit the ground running with minimal supervision.
  • Full UK driving license.
