Environmental Health Officer (Food Safety and Health & Safety) – E. London

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Health Officer (Food Safety and Health & Safety) to support the delivery of statutory food hygiene inspections across a East London borough.

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out a programme of food hygiene inspections in line with the Food Law Code of Practice, covering a range of premises and risk categories.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct statutory food hygiene inspections across a variety of premises and risk categories (A-E)
• Ensure all inspections are completed in accordance with the Food Law Code of Practice
• Assess food hygiene standards and identify areas of non-compliance
• Produce accurate inspection reports and maintain required documentation
• Provide professional advice and guidance to food business operators to support legal compliance
• Carry out follow-up and revisit inspections where necessary
• Maintain accurate records of inspection outcomes and enforcement activity

Essential Requirements

• Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health, or
• Relevant Food Hygiene Inspection Qualification
• Demonstrable competence to undertake inspections at the required risk levels under the Food Law Code of Practice
• Proven experience conducting food hygiene inspections at Environmental Health Officer or Food Safety Officer level
• Strong understanding of food safety legislation, regulatory standards, and enforcement procedures
• Excellent communication and report-writing skills
• Ability to work independently and effectively manage workload
