About the Role

We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Environmental Protection Practitioner to support a busy Environmental Health team for an initial period of 4–6 months.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Environmental Health Officer (EHO), although suitably qualified Environmental Practitioners with the relevant skills and experience will also be considered.

This role would suit an individual who is confident working autonomously following an initial induction period, whilst also contributing effectively as part of a small, busy team managing a varied Environmental Protection caseload.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing statutory nuisance investigations, including noise, pollution and related environmental complaints.
  • Responding to enquiries and complaints from residents and stakeholders.
  • Undertaking Environmental Protection assessments and investigations.
  • Providing professional advice on planning consultations.
  • Reviewing and commenting on technical reports, including acoustics, dust management and light nuisance assessments.
  • Working independently with minimal supervision following an initial induction period.
  • Maintaining accurate records and case management information.
  • Supporting the wider Environmental Health team with day-to-day workload demands.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working within Environmental Protection or a related Environmental Health role.
  • EHO qualification or relevant Environmental Practitioner experience.
  • Experience handling statutory nuisance investigations.
  • Strong knowledge and experience of noise nuisance assessment and investigation.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A reliable and professional approach.
  • Experience using Uniform/IDOX systems.
  • Ability and willingness to attend office/site locations at least two days per week.

Desirable Experience

  • Institute of Acoustics (IoA) Diploma or similar noise qualification.
  • Practical experience using noise monitoring equipment such as Norsonic or Larson Davis sound level meters and associated software.
  • Experience reviewing acoustic assessments and technical reports.
  • Experience dealing with dust management and light nuisance matters.
  • Previous local authority Environmental Protection experience.

Working Arrangements

The successful candidate will be expected to attend the office for an initial induction period, with ongoing attendance required at least two days per week for office/site-based work.

This is an excellent opportunity to support a busy Environmental Protection service and make an immediate impact within a professional local authority environment.
