Buckingham Futures is supporting a Local Authority within the Midlands who are seeking an experienced and confident Environmental Health Officer to join their team

You will be joining a supportive and experienced team environment, with a strong mix of field-based and office-based working.

The Role

In this position, you will take responsibility for a broad and varied caseload, including:

  • Food hygiene inspections across all risk categories, including unrated premises
  • Enforcement revisits and FHRS (Food Hygiene Rating Scheme) rescore inspections
  • Investigation of food safety complaints and follow-up actions
  • Health & safety complaints and RIDDOR investigations
  • Follow-up of infectious disease notifications
  • Food standards inspections (where competent), covering catering and retail premises
  • Preparation of clear, accurate inspection reports and enforcement documentation

Working Arrangement

  • Minimum of 3 days per week on-site within the Midlands (field-based or Council offices)
  • Remaining days working remotely for administrative duties
  • Full driving licence and access to a vehicle required due to site-based work

Candidate Requirements

We are looking for experienced Environmental Health professionals who can confidently operate in a busy regulatory environment and deliver high-quality interventions from day one.

Essential requirements include:

  • Strong competency in food hygiene enforcement (food standards experience desirable)
  • Recent Local Authority Environmental Health experience (within the last 12 months)
  • Proven ability to manage a varied regulatory caseload independently
  • One of the following qualifications:
    • Higher Certificate in Food Control (EHRB or CIEH)
    • Higher Certificate in Official Control (SFSORB)
    • Certificate of Registration to practice as an Environmental Health Practitioner (EHRB)
    • Diploma in Environmental Health (EHRB or REHIS)
    • Advanced Professional Certificate in Food Hygiene and Standards Control (CIEH)
    • Degree or Masters in Environmental Health
