Our client in East London is looking for a fire safety officer to manage all aspects of fire safety across the Council housing assets ensuring services are maintained and improved.

  1. To provide an operational fire safety management function for all Council owned and managed housing assets delivering continuous improvement in resident safety.
  2. Supporting compliance with both statutory and non-statutory fire safety legislation and associated building regulations.
  3. To carry out fire risk assessments across all of the councils housing stock.
  4. Ensuring the FRA programme is delivered on time and to the required standard through the application of a quality assurance programme.
  5. Ensuring compliance with legislation through the use of performance data, risk assessments and audits of Council owned and managed housing assets.
  6. To act as a subject matter expert for the council, in relation to fire safety. Support, develop and maintain the Housing Fire Risk Management Policy.
  7. To act as a resource and liaise with managers and staff at all levels within the Council implementing fire safety standards and initiatives.
  8. To be the specialist fire safety officer for a specific field of fire safety i.e. sheltered accommodation, temporary housing, vulnerable persons, fire engineering, etc.
  9. Identify fire safety priorities and assist in the overall prioritisation within the FRA programme.
  10. To provide expert advice and guidance to managers and staff at all levels of the organisation and act as a focal point for the management of fire safety issues.
  11. To provide technical expertise to the Fire Safety Manger and the Fire Safety Team to enable their duties to be fulfilled effectively.
  12. Provide instruction, training and guidance as necessary to support the application and adherence to fire safety legislation.
  13. Deputise for the Senior Fire Safety Officer where necessary.
  14. Provide specialist knowledge and advice on throughout the design and build stages for new developments, to the relevant teams to ensure they comply with all relevant fire safety legislations and standards.

Qualifications and skills:

  1. Fire safety qualification, NEBOSH or similar recognised Fire Safety Certificate Level 3 or Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety.
  2. Membership of a recognised professional body such as IFE, IFSM, IFPO or similar, with demonstrable evidence of Continuing Professional Development
  3. Analytical ability associated with the management of data, the understanding and interpretation of which is key to the delivery of programmes to deliver assurance.
  4. Be familiar in using PAS:79:2020 format of fire risk assessment.
  5. Good knowledge of MS: Word,
  6. PowerPoint and Excel.
  7. Desirable – Health and safety qualification, NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent.
  8. Desirable – 3rd Party accredited risk assessor registered, as per FRA Competency Council.
  9. Desirable – Experience using CAD drawings
