Buckingham Futures is currently recruiting for a fully qualified Environmental Health Officer to join a local authority Environmental Health service in the Midlands on a contract basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced EHO with a strong background in Environmental Protection, Pollution Control, and regulatory enforcement to take on a varied and rewarding caseload across commercial and industrial settings.

Candidates must hold a recognised Environmental Health qualification and have the professional competency to undertake statutory Environmental Health duties. While relevant environmental, regulatory, or enforcement experience is valuable, candidates without full EHO qualification status will not meet the essential requirements for this position.

The successful candidate will manage a varied Environmental Protection workload, including investigation, regulation, and enforcement across a range of commercial and industrial premises.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Investigating complaints and undertaking enforcement action relating to commercial and industrial nuisance, including:

Noise pollution
Odour complaints
Dust and air emissions
Smoke and fumes
Light pollution
Insects and other environmental nuisance issues

• Monitoring and regulating air quality

• Undertaking planning consultations and providing Environmental Protection advice

• Managing contaminated land enquiries and investigations

• Working with PPC regulations, Environmental Permitting and the Environmental Protection Act 1990

• Addressing issues relating to vacant industrial and commercial premises

• Investigating waste, fly-tipping and environmental crime matters affecting industrial and commercial land

• Managing a reactive, district-based Environmental Protection caseload independently

Essential requirements:

• Fully qualified Environmental Health Officer with relevant professional qualification

• Proven experience within Environmental Protection / Pollution Control

• Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, enforcement powers and regulatory processes

• Confident undertaking site visits, inspections and investigations

• Able to manage a varied workload and prioritise competing demands

• Comfortable providing advice, support and guidance to less experienced officers where required

The successful candidate must be able to attend the office when required and undertake site visits.
