We are currently recruiting for a Permanent Environmental Health Officer / Higher Certificate Technical Officer to join a leading Local Authority in the Home Counties (north of North London). This is an exciting opportunity to work with one of the UK’s largest dairy producers, with a mix of predominantly remote work, office meetings, and essential site visits. A car allowance is provided to support travel.
This role is ideal for candidates who are recent graduates working towards competency, as well as experienced professionals looking to develop specialist knowledge in dairy and food production.
Role Overview
As an Environmental Health Officer, you will:
- Provide expert regulatory advice and enforce food hygiene and food standards legislation.
- Conduct inspections, audits, sampling, advisory visits, and promotional activities.
- Investigate offences, issue legal notices, and prepare prosecution files where required.
- Support wider public health initiatives and local priorities within your area.

Requirements
- Degree in Environmental Health (or equivalent) with EHRB registration.
- Proven experience in food safety enforcement and comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation and codes of practice.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex requirements clearly and confidently.
- Strong investigative and analytical skills, including experience preparing legal documentation and undertaking enforcement action.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development, keeping up to date with FSA and UKHSA guidance.
- Flexibility to work across the region, including occasional out-of-hours duties (paid at an agreed rate).
