Buckingham Futures are currently working on an excellent opportunity for an experienced Housing Enforcement / Environmental Health professional to join a high-performing local authority team in East London, focusing on improving housing standards and directly protecting the health, safety, and wellbeing of residents across the borough.

This is a genuinely varied and impactful role where no two days are the same. You will be at the frontline of housing standards enforcement, dealing with complex and often sensitive cases across a broad range of residential properties, including single-family dwellings, Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs), and mobile homes.

Hybrid working is available, offering a strong balance between field-based inspections, office collaboration, and remote reporting.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Investigating complaints relating to poor housing conditions across a diverse property portfolio, ensuring full compliance with housing legislation, statutory guidance, licence conditions, and regulatory standards
  • Carrying out detailed inspections under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS), identifying hazards and assessing their severity and impact on occupier health and safety
  • Producing high-quality inspection records, including detailed notes, calculations, sketches/plans, and photographic evidence, ensuring case files are accurate, robust, and legally defensible
  • Preparing comprehensive schedules of works, clearly setting out remedial actions required to eliminate or reduce hazards to an acceptable level
  • Drafting formal notices, reports, and correspondence in line with statutory requirements, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and compliance throughout the enforcement process
  • Managing your own varied caseload, balancing proactive and reactive enforcement activity while maintaining high professional standards

This is a fantastic opportunity for a confident and experienced practitioner who enjoys meaningful, hands-on enforcement work and wants to make a visible difference to housing conditions and public safety. You will be joining a supportive team environment where your expertise will be valued and your work will have real, measurable impact on residents’ lives.

If you have strong experience in housing enforcement, environmental health, or HHSRS-based inspections and are looking for a role that combines autonomy, variety, and purpose, we would welcome a conversation with you.
