Buckingham Futures has received a mandate from a London Based Local Authority to find a Lead Public Health Consultant for improving and protecting the health and wellbeing of residents. The role provides expert public health leadership, advice and assurance across the Council and local health system.
This would be an initial 6 month contract with option to extend for up to 12 months.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead delivery of the Council’s statutory public health duties, including health improvement, health protection and healthcare public health.
- Advise elected members, senior officers and partners on all public health matters.
- Develop and deliver the Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy and maintain an effective Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA).
- Ensure strong systems for infection control, emergency preparedness, and environmental health protection.
- Work with NHS, ICB, and community partners to improve services and outcomes across the system.
- Manage the Public Health Grant and ensure commissioned services deliver value for money.
- Produce the Annual Report on the Health of the Population.
- Lead, develop and support the public health team.
Qualifications & Experience
- Registered with GMC, GDC or UK Public Health Register (UKPHR).
- Significant senior-level public health leadership experience.
- Strong understanding of epidemiology, health improvement, and health protection.
- Skilled in partnership working, strategic leadership, and influencing in complex systems.
