Buckingham Futures are assisting a West London–based local authority for a Head of Environmental Services that will lead and manage the delivery of frontline environmental operations. The role is accountable for strategic planning, operational performance, and financial management across key environmental services, ensuring efficient, sustainable, and compliant service delivery aligned with corporate priorities.

This would be a 6 month contract (Potential for extensions) paying up to 550 per day

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage services covering:
- Waste management and collection
- Street cleansing and transfer station operations
- Household Waste & Recycling Centre (HWRC)
- Grounds maintenance, minor highway repairs, and fleet management
- Parks, open spaces, allotments, cemeteries, and crematorium services
- Recycling, waste minimisation, and sustainability initiatives
Drive service improvements that enhance performance, customer satisfaction, and value for money.
Provide strong financial oversight of high-value budgets and contracts.
Lead multi-disciplinary teams, embedding ESG principles, green procurement, and Net Zero objectives.
Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental legislation.

Experience and Qualifications

Senior leadership experience managing complex environmental or public realm services.
Proven success in implementing green procurement, ESG frameworks, and Net Zero initiatives.
In-depth knowledge of environmental policy, waste legislation, and sustainability practices.
Degree-level qualification in Environmental Management, Public Administration, or related field (advanced or management qualification desirable).
