A local authority in Essex is seeking an experienced Environmental Health Officer for a 3-month + assignment. This is a full-time role requiring a minimum of two days in the office/on the district each week, offering the opportunity to make a real impact on environmental protection, housing standards, and public health within the district.

Key Responsibilities:

Investigating statutory nuisances, including air, land, and water pollution concerns
Responding to environmental complaints such as contaminated land, waste management issues, and vermin or pest infestations
Carrying out enforcement actions to ensure compliance with environmental and housing legislation
Conducting HMO licensing and HHSRS inspections to ensure safe and healthy living conditions
Providing advice and support on planning and licensing consultations to safeguard environmental and public health standards
Supporting public health initiatives aimed at improving environmental quality and community wellbeing
Serving notices and maintaining accurate compliance records

Requirements:

Proven experience in statutory nuisance investigations, environmental enforcement, HHSRS, and HMO inspections
Strong understanding of regulatory compliance and environmental legislation
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a proactive team
