A local authority in Essex is seeking an experienced Environmental Health Officer for a 3-month + assignment. This is a full-time role requiring a minimum of two days in the office/on the district each week, offering the opportunity to make a real impact on environmental protection, housing standards, and public health within the district.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigating statutory nuisances, including air, land, and water pollution concerns
  • Responding to environmental complaints such as contaminated land, waste management issues, and vermin or pest infestations
  • Carrying out enforcement actions to ensure compliance with environmental and housing legislation
  • Conducting HMO licensing and HHSRS inspections to ensure safe and healthy living conditions
  • Providing advice and support on planning and licensing consultations to safeguard environmental and public health standards
  • Supporting public health initiatives aimed at improving environmental quality and community wellbeing
  • Serving notices and maintaining accurate compliance records

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in statutory nuisance investigations, environmental enforcement, HHSRS, and HMO inspections
  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance and environmental legislation
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a proactive team
