Buckingham Futures are working with a local authority in West London recruiting for two interim Public Health Officer positions that play a vital role in improving health outcomes for local residents.

This is a dynamic and multifaceted position supporting work across three core domains:

Health Improvement You’ll lead initiatives that promote healthier lifestyles—such as smoking cessation, physical activity programmes, and NHS Health Checks—while addressing broader socio-economic factors like housing and environment.

Health Protection You’ll contribute to safeguarding the population from health threats including communicable diseases, environmental hazards, and emergency preparedness. This includes supporting immunisation and screening programmes.

Healthcare Public Health You’ll help improve healthcare services by focusing on outcomes, service quality, and evidence-based practice. This includes contributing to Joint Strategic Needs Assessments and developing care pathways tailored to Hillingdon’s population.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage public health contracts (e.g. drug and alcohol treatment, sexual health, mental health support)
  • Support commissioning and procurement of services
  • Design and deliver evidence-based programmes
  • Collaborate across departments and external partners
  • Integrate public health priorities with broader strategic agendas (e.g. climate change, housing, community safety)

Candidate Profile

We’re looking for individuals with:

  • Relevant qualifications (NVQ, diploma, or degree)
  • Experience in public health commissioning and project management
  • Strong communication and analytical skills
  • A passion for improving population health and reducing inequalities
