About the Role
We are currently seeking a proactive and experienced Temporary Adaptations & Independent Living Officer to join our team on a temporary basis while we recruit a permanent member of staff. This critical role supports vulnerable residents to live independently and safely within their homes through the effective delivery of adaptations and Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs).
Test of Resources Assessments: Carry out provisional assessments to determine financial eligibility for DFGs.
Application Support: Assist residents in completing formal DFG applications and facilitate the approval process.
Pre-Start Meetings: Attend meetings with contractors, residents, and occupational therapists to finalise plans for adaptations.
Contract Management: Issue works contracts in line with agreed specifications and council policies.
Work Inspections: Inspect completed adaptation works to ensure compliance with approved standards and arrange for timely payment of contractor invoices.
Case Management: Maintain accurate records of all cases, ensuring updates are documented in a timely manner.
Stakeholder Liaison: Liaise with residents, contractors, social care professionals, and internal teams to ensure smooth delivery of services.
Additional Duties: Undertake any other responsibilities as outlined in the full job specification or as reasonably required.

The ideal candidate will bring a mix of technical knowledge, customer service, and practical experience in housing adaptations or a similar field.
Essential Experience & Qualifications
Proven experience working in a similar role within housing, social care, or adaptations services.
Strong knowledge of Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs), Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996, and related legislation.
Ability to carry out Test of Resources assessments (Means Testing) accurately.
Experience managing adaptation works, including site visits, contractor liaison, and quality checks.
Excellent organisational and time-management skills with the ability to manage a varied caseload.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills – both written and verbal.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and case management systems.
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for district visits.
Basic DBS check (required prior to starting).
Desirable
Relevant qualification in housing, construction, social care, or occupational therapy (or equivalent work experience).
Experience working with vulnerable or disabled individuals and understanding their needs.
Knowledge of procurement and contract management in the public sector.
