(BF4897) – Environmental Health Lead Officer – Health & Trading Standards – Housing – South London
Location: South London

Contract Length: Full Time – 35hr/week – 3-Month
The role involves managing staff and leading on allocated projects or specialisms within Commercial, Residential/Housing, and Pollution/Waste Management. Reporting to a Team Manager, the post-holder is responsible for overseeing project performance, developing policies and procedures, coordinating work across teams, and ensuring compliance with legislation and council policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage specific projects or specialisms, including staff coordination and performance monitoring.
- Assist with budget preparation and contribute to policy development.
- Provide professional advice to the public, elected representatives, and external bodies.
- Prepare reports, attend meetings, and handle public complaints and enquiries.
- Conduct complex investigations and enforcement actions, including representing the council in legal settings.
- Identify training needs, deliver training, and support staff recruitment and selection.
- Input and manage data using computer systems.
- Represent the Team Manager when required and perform other related duties.
- Ensure all work aligns with health and safety, customer care, and equal opportunity policies.
Requirements:
- Proven experience working as an Environmental Health Officer in local government or similar settings.
- Competence in managing caseloads related to housing standards.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation and enforcement procedures.
- Strong report writing and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle for site visits.
