Salary: Circa £40/hr (Umbrella)
Buckingham Futures is seeking a qualified and experienced Environmental Health Officer for a temporary assignment lasting 6 months. This part-time opportunity involves a mix of field-based inspections across the borough and office-based duties. The primary focus will be Private Sector Housing, including responsibilities under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) and Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO).
Responsibilities:
- Investigate public health and housing-related complaints and service requests efficiently and in compliance with legislative requirements, internal procedures, and best practice.
- Undertake a scheduled programme of inspections to monitor and enforce compliance with relevant public health and housing legislation.
- Take enforcement actions where necessary, including the preparation and presentation of evidence and attendance at court proceedings.
- Maintain comprehensive records and statutory documentation, including digital systems and performance reporting.
- Respond to enquiries and maintain detailed case notes to ensure accurate documentation of inspections, actions taken, and outcomes.
- Represent the department in meetings with other council departments, external agencies, and professional organisations when required.
Requirements:
- Proven experience working as an Environmental Health Officer in local government or similar settings.
- Competence in managing caseloads related to public health nuisances and housing standards.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation and enforcement procedures.
- Strong report writing and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle for site visits.
