Buckingham Futures have an exciting opportunity for a Senior/Principal Environmental Health Officer (Food & Safety) to join a local authority in East London. This role is to start ASAP on an initial 4-months contract, with a strong potential for extension.
We’re keen to hear from Senior/Principal Environmental Health professionals with strong Food & Safety experience. If you have an interest in either area, the client is open to considering splitting the role accordingly.

Responsibilities:

Food Safety
As a Senior/Principal Environmental Health Officer, you will play a key role in safeguarding public health by leading food hygiene and safety inspections, managing service requests, and undertaking both proactive and reactive investigations. You will be responsible for responding to routine enquiries, carrying out complex inspections of high-risk food businesses, and ensuring full compliance with food safety and workplace health legislation.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a seasoned professional to step into a leadership role, guiding and managing a dedicated food safety team during a critical transition period. You’ll be instrumental in maintaining high food hygiene standards and supporting junior officers through technical guidance and mentorship.
Requirements:

  • Managing and leading the food safety enforcement team.
  • Be fully qualified and competent to enforce food safety legislation, with additional experience in health and safety enforcement being highly desirable.
  • Possess excellent communication and negotiation skills, enabling you to engage positively and constructively with business owners, colleagues, and partner organisations.
  • Have proven experience reviewing and developing policies and procedures, ensuring they remain compliant, effective, and fit for purpose.
  • Hold an Environmental Health Registration Board certificate (EHORB), supported by recent and relevant Continuing Professional Development, in accordance with the Framework of Competency for Officers.
  • Have an up-to-date and completed Food Standards Agency competency framework, along with substantial recent experience inspecting high-risk food businesses, covering both food safety and health and safety matters.
  • Preparing legal documents, including enforcement notices and prosecution files.
