Buckingham Futures is hiring on behalf of one of our clients for a Principal Private Sector Housing Officer to support their Environmental Health and Housing team in Greater London. This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on housing standards and public safety within the private rented sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Enforcement Duties:
- Conduct property inspections and enforce compliance with housing and environmental regulations.
- Issue enforcement notices, prepare case files for legal action, and provide guidance to landlords and tenants on legal requirements and best practices.
- Site-Based Work:
- Spend 60% to 75% of your time conducting site visits across residential and commercial premises within Greater London, equipped with necessary inspection tools.
- Maintain detailed records of site visits and enforcement activities.
- Customer-Facing Role:
- Represent the client in frontline enforcement, engaging with residents, landlords, and other stakeholders.
- Manage challenging situations effectively, working to resolve disputes and ensure compliance with housing standards.
- Team Collaboration:
- Work collaboratively within the Enforcement Team to fulfill statutory obligations and align with client policies and procedures.
- Build and maintain partnerships with internal departments and external agencies to enhance public safety and housing quality.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in private sector housing enforcement or environmental health within a local authority or similar environment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of housing legislation, environmental health regulations, and enforcement protocols.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a solution-oriented approach to enforcement challenges.
- A valid UK driving license and access to a vehicle for site visits is desirable.
