Employer’s guide to the Directory of Student Training Opportunities (DSTO)
Your support for EH careers
The Directory of Student Training Opportunities (DSTO) is a listing of training opportunities managed by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) and supported by Buckingham Futures, which helps students complete their Environmental Health Practitioner (EHP) Portfolio, improve their knowledge of EH and expand on their practical skillset.
We are encouraging EH employers to add opportunities across various EH sectors, ideally with roles that align with the requirements of the CIEH’s Environmental Health Practitioner (EHP) Portfolio.
How to submit an opportunity
- Employers with an opportunity will need to fill in CIEH’s online form detailing their requirements:
- The intervention (environmental protection, food safety, health and safety, housing and public health)
- Duration of the role (one day, half day, per week/month, etc.)
- County and Address
- Contact details of the employer
- Other necessities before start (i.e. own safety equipment)
- Please note that opportunities must align with the requirements of the EHP Portfolio.
These opportunities will be uploaded to the online DSTO and will be live for EH students to access. Students can search and identify opportunities then contact the corresponding provider. You can email the CIEH team to education@cieh.org for detailed information on the interventions contained within the Environmental Health Practitioner (EHP) Portfolio.
Julie Barratt, President of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) is passionate to safeguard EH’s future
“We are hoping to see employers from across the sector take full advantage of the directory by submitting their roles and training opportunities to us. Please support our profession and the students working hard to establish themselves in the industry by contacting us with any opportunity you can offer.”
“Working together we can make the DSTO a vital resource that underpins the EH Portfolio, making training opportunities available to students on the pathway to registration.”
Ketan Dattani, CEO of Buckingham Futures shares his enthusiasm for the DSTO
“It is great to be involved and, as we work closely with key employers and universities, we plan to promote it widely. It is an increasingly competitive market out there and broad work experience will make students more employable”
“It will be a great resource for students on the CIEH professional pathway, and an exciting initiative for potential employers”
Next Issue
We would like to thank employers and students for the continued support for the DSTO!
